In addition with only 6% of adults with autism in the workforce, only 8% of adults with autism are living independently. If individuals with autism do not live at home with their parents, they are usually living in group homes. It cost up to $75,000 per year to give an autistic adult housing in a group home.

With the rates of autism on the rise and the sobering prognosis for the future of individuals with autism, it is important to prepare individuals on the autism spectrum for employment.

Why should individuals with a disability - who are already less likely to experience a high quality of life - be deprived of work that can enhance their sense of competence, independence, and agency?

AND - research reveals that, when taught specific skills for a position within their capacities, individuals with autism can be employable. Rehabilitative job coaches provide customized shadowing, support, and job training.
